The Aviary

We have always had a small aviary for the occasional bird that we had join us, but in 2019 we had forty-two budgies come to live with us. All beautiful birds that needed a suitable place to live. We therefore extended the aviary to accommodate our new arrivals, who were simply dumped with us – if we had not agreed to take them, the gentleman threatened to simply let them go into the wild. He arrived at Hollyview, and some of these birds were loose in his car. We felt we had no choice.

The Aviary is made up of budgies, a cockatiel, and quails. All these birds have come from tiny cages and have never been allowed the freedom to fly. Being such sociable creatures, it is vital for their well-being that they have adequate room and are given the opportunity to be with other members of their species. They enjoy grooming one another and playing together.

Along with their bird seed, they have a fresh chop every day which consists of fresh fruit and vegetables, as this is vital for their health. We also furnish their aviary with branches, so they have different foliage to eat and a variety of wood to play on.
