The Cattery

The Cattery is made up of five pens. Each pen is heated, with cosy beds, duvets, scratch posts, toys, and litter trays – every comfort that the cats that come to us have never had. The Cattery has a safe enclosed garden attached to it, so the cats can have outside access where they can watch the goings-on at the sanctuary before having complete freedom.

We realised there was a need for safe spaces for feral and FIV cats who were often persecuted for simply trying to survive on the streets, through no fault of their own. We built The Cattery, so that when they come here, they can decompress and finally relax without the constant fear of street life.

We feel very strongly that there is considerable misinformation surrounding FIV cats. We treat all our cats the same, as we see no difference between those with FIV and those without. All our cats mix together, we do not separate them, we do not treat those with FIV as lepers. It is only that their immune system can be more compromised than that of a cat without FIV.

Every cat that comes in goes into their own pen in the cattery, with access to the garden, which has views of the sanctuary. This is so that they get used to all the new sights and sounds, as seeing a donkey walk past your window is not something that they have come across before! It can take some time for some of them to relax, and we will never know the true horrors of what they have been subjected to whilst living on the streets. Once we feel that they have found their feet, they have complete freedom of the sanctuary.
