Hiya, My name is Mambo Number Five, and I’d say it’s nice to see you, but I can’t. See you that is - as I’ve been blind since birth. I’m a Suffolk crossbreed and before I came to Hollyview I had a bit of a rough time on the farm because I just couldn’t see. I didn’t know where I was and my flock ignored me. So I spent a lot of time crying.
Luckily for me the couple who lived near the farm heard me crying and went and had a chat with the farmer. They agreed to buy me so I can have a new home here at Hollyview. And I’m so grateful both to them and to the farmer who agreed to let me go.
So, I’ve been here for just over and year and I love it. The grass is sweet and I love it when I get fed Alfafa nuts – it’s a real treat! I’m called Mambo Number Five because of my tattoo – I have the number 5 on my ear and I’m told it’s very fetching.
I’ve made lots of friends in the field and I’ve learned to follow the fence to help me find where I am going. My confidence has grown and if I get stuck my friends will help me out. I just shout and one of the donkeys or alpacas will come over to see if I’m OK. If I need a guide they will put their necks over my back and lead me wherever I want to go. Who needs guide dogs eh!
I can also follow the sound of human voices and I do, because you never know if there will be a treat at the end of it! So Hollyview is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
I’d love it if you would be my friend and sponsor me.
